MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT – INDUSTRIAL LINKAGES OFFICE
The Department of Industrial Linkages plays a pivotal role in advancing the College’s mission of providing quality technical and vocational education that is responsive to the needs of industry and society. As the interface between the College and the world of work, the department is committed to fostering strong and sustainable partnerships with industry, government agencies, development partners, professional bodies, and other educational institutions. These collaborations are essential in ensuring that training programs remain relevant, practical, and aligned with current labor market demands.
In line with the recommendations of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), the department actively promotes industry partnerships and the implementation of the Dual Training approach. This model integrates institutional learning with workplace-based training, allowing trainees to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies in real work environments. Through close collaboration with employers and industry stakeholders, the department seeks to enhance trainees’ employability, strengthen skills development, and facilitate a smoother transition from training to employment. The Dual Training system also enables industries to participate directly in the training process, ensuring that graduates possess the competencies required in modern workplaces.
One of the department’s core mandates is to establish, strengthen, and maintain strategic partnerships and linkages with various industry players and organizations. These partnerships provide opportunities for industrial attachments, apprenticeships, internships, mentorship programs, collaborative research, innovation, technology transfer, and curriculum improvement. By engaging industry in training and assessment processes, the College is able to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and workplace expectations, thereby producing competent, innovative, and industry-ready graduates.
The department is also responsible for liaising with relevant industry stakeholders to facilitate attachment opportunities for trainers. Trainer industrial attachments are critical in enabling instructors to gain hands-on experience, update their technical knowledge, and familiarize themselves with emerging technologies, processes, and industry trends. Such exposure enhances the quality of instruction and ensures that classroom teaching reflects current industry practices. The department therefore works closely with industry partners to create meaningful attachment opportunities that support continuous professional development for trainers.
In addition, the Department of Industrial Linkages coordinates, supervises, and evaluates trainee industrial attachments as an integral component of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET). The department ensures that trainees are placed in suitable organizations where they can apply their skills, gain practical experience, and develop professional competencies. Regular monitoring, assessment, and feedback mechanisms are employed to ensure that attachment programs meet their intended objectives and provide value to both trainees and host organizations. Through these initiatives, trainees are equipped with the technical, entrepreneurial, and employability skills necessary for success in a dynamic and competitive labor market.
The department also endeavors to establish and maintain collaborative networks with local, regional, and international academic institutions for mutual growth and development. Such networks facilitate academic exchange, benchmarking, joint projects, research collaborations, and the sharing of best practices in training and institutional management. These partnerships contribute significantly to improving the quality of education and expanding opportunities for both staff and trainees.
Furthermore, the department develops, reviews, and maintains all relevant industrial attachment documents, policies, guidelines, logbooks, assessment tools, and reference materials necessary for the effective implementation of industrial linkage activities. By ensuring that these resources are up-to-date and aligned with TVETA requirements and industry expectations, the department promotes efficiency, accountability, and quality assurance in all its operations.
As industries continue to evolve in response to technological advancement, digital transformation, and global economic changes, the importance of strong industrial linkages cannot be overstated. The Department of Industrial Linkages remains committed to building robust partnerships that support skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness. Through continuous engagement with stakeholders and the successful implementation of the Dual Training approach, the department seeks to position the College as a center of excellence in technical and vocational education and training.
On behalf of the Department of Industrial Linkages, I extend my sincere appreciation to our industry partners, development agencies, academic collaborators, trainers, trainees, alumni, and all stakeholders whose support has contributed to our achievements. Your commitment and partnership remain invaluable in advancing our shared vision of producing skilled and competent graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national and global development.
I humbly appeal for your continued support, collaboration, and active participation in strengthening industrial linkages and expanding opportunities for our trainees and staff. Together, we can build a stronger, more responsive, and industry-driven TVET system that empowers learners and transforms lives.
Thank you.
